PTSD Resolution Achieves Silver ERS Award
PTSD Resolution CEO Charles Highett accepts the ERS Silver Award, presented by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mr Nigel Atkinson
A Call to Action for Employers to Support Veterans via The Armed Forces Covenant
On 4th September 2024, PTSD Resolution proudly accepted its Silver Award in the Armed Forces Covenant's Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) - a significant milestone celebrated in the historic grounds of Admiralty House at HM Naval Base Portsmouth.
PTSD Resolution hopes this award will inspire other organisations to join the Covenant and support the reintegration of UK Veterans into civilian life. Central to the charity’s own Covenant pledge is the belief that supporting ex-Service personnel is not only a moral obligation - but also a strategic advantage for businesses.
Registered charity PTSD Resolution is dedicated to assisting UK Veterans, Reservists and family members struggling to reintegrate into everyday life. Founded in 2009, and with over 4,000 referrals to date, the charity provides free, prompt and effective therapy through a UK-wide network of 200 therapists. Treatment is also available online or by phone, ensuring Veterans can access the help they need, regardless of their location.
Understanding the Armed Forces Covenant and the ERS
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that acknowledges the unique sacrifices made by military personnel and their families. It seeks to ensure that those who serve, or have served, face no disadvantage in accessing public and commercial services. By signing the Covenant, organisations pledge to uphold these principles, demonstrating their commitment to the armed forces community.
The Employer Recognition Scheme was established to encourage employers to support the Armed Forces community, offering structured recognition for those who make a commitment. With 3 awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold - the ERS acknowledges varying levels of support for Veterans. PTSD Resolution’s Silver Award reflects dedication to the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant, which emphasises fairness and respect for those who serve.
Benefits of Engaging with the ERS
Joining the ERS can enhance an organisation’s reputation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) profile while providing access to a pool of highly skilled ex-military talent. Veterans bring invaluable attributes to the workforce: discipline, resilience, leadership and adaptability - all honed through their Service. By employing Veterans, organisations not only support their transition to civilian life but also enrich their teams with individuals who excel under pressure and foster a collaborative environment.
Creating a Supportive Workplace Culture
The ERS also encourages the fostering of a more supportive workplace culture. For example, as part of their Covenant pledge, PTSD Resolution offers Trauma Awareness Training for Everyone (TATE). This initiative is designed to help attendees recognise the signs of trauma, develop strategies to support those affected - and ultimately create a more resilient workforce.
TATE courses are available to both organisations and individuals, underscoring the charity's commitment to mental health awareness in both the workplace and society more generally.
Future Collaboration
With the achievement of the Silver Award, PTSD Resolution looks forward to collaborating with other organisations to help them progress through the awards scheme.
The journey toward achieving an ERS award may seem daunting, but the support and resources available make it accessible for organisations of all sizes. Whether a small business or a large corporation, any organisation can adapt its Covenant pledge to align with its values and operational capabilities. The flexibility of the Covenant allows for tailored pledges that reflect the unique circumstances of each organisation - making participation a viable option for all.
Join Us!
As PTSD Resolution continues its vital work, it calls upon other organisations to reflect on their role in supporting Veterans. By signing the Armed Forces Covenant and working towards an ERS Award, employers can contribute to a culture of recognition for those who have served - leading to productive outcomes for all.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of Veterans and their families, creating a society that honours both the sacrifices of the past - and the opportunities of the future.
