Get Inspired to Move for Mental Health
Get Inspired to Move for Mental Health This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (13th - 19th May) and the theme for 2024 is 'Movement: moving for our mental health.’ We all know that moving more is beneficial for our mental wellbeing - so what is it that sometimes gets in our way? As the Mental Health Foundation acknowledges: “There can be numerous barriers to being physically active and moving such as low energy, lack of confidence, or financial constraints.” At some point in our lives we will all face at least one of these challenges. “Rather than be hard on ourselves, it’s important to recognise their validity and find what works for each of us…” This week, we are taking the opportunity to spotlight some of our most active fundraisers - who just might inspire you to #MoveYourWay! Meet Chris Elliott A Veteran and former client of PTSD Resolution, Chris is undertaking an epic physical challenge - walking & running 106 miles in May - all to raise much-needed funds for a new pilot therapy programme. “PTSD Resolution helped me change my life around!” Chris says. “Now it’s time for me to help others change theirs. We are aiming to raise as much money as possible to help fund a pilot course that PTSD Resolution is supporting.” This pilot and outreach project, titled 'Just What We Need for Veterans (JWWN-V),’ will be 8 sessions, one evening a week for 8 weeks. “This will be based on the same Human Givens approach that PTSD Resolution therapists adopt,” explains Chris, “but instead of being on a one-to-one basis, it will be aimed at those Veterans who would rather work in a group-based session.” The pilot will also enable the charity to continue and expand their effective therapy in prisons, “thereby helping Veterans who may have fallen by the wayside, for whatever reason.” 106 Miles in May Chris has been busy accruing miles this month - including morning and evening dog walks, and long treks across London - but there is still a long way to go. “Team Elliott” has opted to walk 106 miles as “it is approximately 106 miles from PTSD Resolution HQ in Eastbourne to MKDons stadium in Milton Keynes where, thanks to their kindness and generosity, the pilot course will be taking place.” Can you help Chris help our UK Veterans? www.justgiving.com/page/chris-elliott-jwwn-v You can read more about Chris and his PTSD Resolution journey here
