Colonel Tony Gauvain (Retired), Chairman of PTSD Resolution, was honoured with the Healthcare and Rehabilitation Award at the prestigious Soldiering On Awards ceremony on 27 September. The award is sponsored by Redwood Technologies and recognises Tony’s outstanding commitment and contribution to supporting the mental health and welfare of veterans and their families.
The black-tie ceremony, hosted by Jeremy Vine at the Park Plaza Hotel Westminster Bridge in London, celebrated the remarkable achievements of those who have served the country and continue to dedicate themselves to the armed forces community.
Attended by representatives from all three military services, military charities and corporate supporters, the event shone a spotlight on the finalists in 12 diverse categories and celebrated the winners with speeches and entertainment.
Upon receiving his award, Tony said, “I am deeply honoured to accept this award on behalf of the entire team at PTSD Resolution. Our mission is to provide effective trauma therapy that empowers veterans to regain control of their lives. This recognition motivates us to reach even more veterans in need.”
In 2009, Tony co-founded PTSD Resolution after discovering that Human Givens therapy could successfully treat veterans affected by military trauma. Under his leadership as CEO until April 2023, the charity has supported over 3,600 veterans and family members nationwide.
PTSD Resolution operates through a network of 200 accredited therapists across the UK. Veterans can quickly connect with a local therapist to undergo brief therapy without having to discuss traumatic events. This free, confidential, accessible and prompt treatment makes a significant difference in veterans’ lives.
Charles Highett, who took over as CEO in April, said, “Tony’s commitment to supporting veterans is unmatched. His work has enabled thousands of veterans to overcome trauma, PTSD and other mental health issues. This award is well-deserved recognition of Tony’s vision and dedication.”
Now in their 14 th year, the Soldiering On Awards were founded to recognise those who have given exceptional service to our country and individuals and groups who work together in support of the forces community.
Tony enjoyed a distinguished 32-year career in the British Army, including commanding the Cheshire Regiment. Upon retiring in 1990, he was determined to address the mental health crisis among veterans that he had witnessed firsthand.
After training as a Human Givens therapist and discovering the therapy’s effectiveness for trauma resolution, Tony treated veterans. He then co-founded PTSD Resolution with a mission to provide effective therapy and enable veterans to reintegrate into civilian life.
Under Tony’s leadership, PTSD Resolution has become a leading force in veteran mental healthcare. Although stepping back from daily operations, as Chairman Tony remains integral to guiding the charity’s work.
Tony’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of veterans, combined with the charity’s achievements, make him a deserving recipient of the Healthcare and Rehabilitation Award.
Reflecting on the 2023 Soldiering On Awards cohort, Lt Col Ren Kapur MBE, chief executive of X-Forces Enterprise and Soldiering on Awards, commented: "It is both an honour and a privilege to lead the Soldiering On Awards and bring to life fascinating, inspirational stories from across the wider military family, stories that are multifaceted, like the people behind them.
"My sincere thanks go to Lord Dannatt, our co-chair of judges, for his leadership, wisdom, and passion for these awards."
