New Report on PTSD Resolution’s HG Therapy

A new report presents initial findings from PTSD Resolution's Project-100 study, which explores the effectiveness of Human Givens (HG) therapy in treating psychological trauma among military veterans. Using recognised outcome measures (CORE-10, PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5), the preliminary results indicate encouraging recovery and steady improvement rates, meeting or exceeding national standards, according to Charles Highett, the CEO of PTSD Resolution.

The therapy, characterised by excellent client participation and reduced dropout rates, shows its acceptance within the veteran community, says the report author, Bill Andrews, Honorary Researcher, Dept. of Psychology, University of Roehampton.

While acknowledging the difficulties in carrying out randomised controlled trials, the report emphasises the significance of supplementary real-world research in line with NICE Guidelines. It underscores the critical role of client feedback and individualised treatment plans.

Initial evidence suggests that the Human Givens therapy approach, employed by PTSD Resolution, holds potential in addressing psychological trauma in veterans. However, more long-term follow-up data is required for a thorough understanding of the therapy's effectiveness..

Key findings are:

  • The overwhelming majority of clients who contact the service progress into treatment, with more than 3 out of 4 clients staying in treatment to an agreed planned ending.

  • Treatment effect sizes are large on all measures used.

  • Recovery rates are broadly equivalent to the ambitious targets set by the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Services with very high numbers of referrals engaging in treatment.

PTSD Resolution, registered charity number 1133188, is dedicated to the mental health support of UK Veterans, Reservists, and their families. The charity offers free, effective, and timely treatment through a network of 200 therapists across the country, as well as via phone and internet. Additionally, PTSD Resolution collaborates with other organisations to support the mental well-being of their non-veteran employees, such as in the UK security industry.

Established in 2009, PTSD Resolution has received accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is a member of the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS). To date, the charity has received over 3,500 referrals and typically provides therapy in about seven sessions, with a significant number of cases reaching a point where both the client and therapist agree that further therapy is not necessary.

PTSD Resolution is one of the few organisations that offer therapy to veterans dealing with addiction or in prison, as well as to their family members, including partners and children, who might be experiencing trauma symptoms due to living with a traumatised veteran.

Operating with a uniquely 'lean' structure, PTSD Resolution has no salaried staff or assets. Funds are directed towards providing therapy, conducting essential research, and disseminating public information.
