PTSD Resolution Marks 20th Anniversary of the Start of The Iraq War
PTSD Resolution, a leading UK charity that provides prompt, confidential treatment and support to veterans suffering from all mental health problems including post-traumatic stress disorder, has helped over 3,600 UK armed forces veterans, of which 37% are veterans of the Iraq war.
PTSD Resolution was established in 2009, and since then it has helped veterans from all conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan. The charity offers a free and confidential service that provides veterans with access to trained therapists who specialise in Human Givens Therapy to treat trauma and other mental health issues.
According to recent data released by the charity, 56% of veterans treated by the charity this year are veterans of the Iraq war. This highlights the profound impact that the conflict has had on those who served in it and the ongoing need for support and treatment for veterans that suffer as a result.
PTSD Resolution's Chairman, Colonel Tony Gauvain (retired), said: "We remain committed to providing support to veterans who are struggling with PTSD. Our services are free, confidential, prompt and local, and available to any veteran, regardless of when or where they served."
The charity's work has been recognised by the UK government and has received funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to help expand its services. The charity is also supported by a team of volunteers, who provide their time and expertise free of charge.
PTSD Resolution is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS). The results of every therapy session and programme are evaluated and recorded confidentially; and the average treatment period is six sessions, with 78% of cases showing significant improvement to where no further therapy has been required.
PTSD Resolution is one of the only charities that provides therapy to veterans suffering from addiction issues or who are in prison. The charity also offers therapy to family members, including partners and children, who may experience the symptoms of trauma from living with a traumatised veteran.
The charity operates using a unique 'lean' model, with no salaried staff or assets. The funds are used exclusively for delivering therapy, essential research, and public information.
“As we mark the 20th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, we must recognise the ongoing impact that the war has had on those who served, and the importance of organisations like PTSD Resolution in providing support and treatment to those suffering from PTSD,” says Tony Gauvain.

Testimonials from veterans of Iraq:
"The day finally came, and I was deployed to Iraq. One day, we were in a convoy and hit an IED. I was diagnosed with PTSD, I found out about PTSD Resolution and they helped me. Now I'm back in work, and my family is back to normal."
"I served in the Royal Navy for 13 years, which included two tours in Iraq. PTSD Resolution provided me with a therapist who was supportive and, importantly, had a military background. I would definitely recommend PTSD Resolution to anyone in the armed forces, especially those who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan."
"I had no idea that I had PTSD until I read about it in the newspaper. I had served in Iraq but didn't associate the problems I was having with PTSD. I found out about PTSD Resolution and contacted them. I am now able to manage my condition and lead a normal life."
"I was in Iraq for a year, on the front line, and saw some horrible things. I contacted PTSD Resolution, and they got me a therapist who was an ex-serviceman. My therapist was brilliant, and I felt comfortable talking to him about things I had never spoken about before. I would definitely recommend PTSD Resolution to other veterans who have served in Iraq."
