Veterans Outreach Support and PTSD Resolution Have Joined Forces to Improve Access to Mental Health Support Across South East England
Veterans Outreach Support and PTSD Resolution have signed a groundbreaking partnership agreement to expand mental health, wellbeing and welfare support networks for veterans, their families and carers across South East England.
The partnership is part of the Thrive Together South East Partnership in Mind programme, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust..
Veterans Outreach Support (VOS), acting as one of ten regional portfolio leads, is building a sustainable support network across nine counties of the South East of England: Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, and the Isle of Wight.
Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution, said:
"VOS and PTSD Resolution have worked to the same purpose; to support our veteran community. This partnership agreement builds on this and represents a significant step forward in providing holistic support to our Armed Forces community. By combining PTSD Resolution's therapeutic expertise with Veterans Outreach Support's comprehensive welfare, wellbeing and mental health support services, we can address both the immediate mental health needs and broader support requirements of veterans and their families."
Under this agreement, PTSD Resolution will provide therapy services through its nationwide network of 200 qualified Human Givens Institute (HGI) therapists, and it will also deliver Trauma Awareness Training and Education (TATE) programmes to organisations across the South East region.
Ian Millen, CEO of Veterans Outreach Support, said:
"We are excited at the prospect of providing holistic support to veterans and their families beyond our charity's existing boundaries, as we deliver on behalf of Thrive Together. We want to ensure that, wherever you are in the region, you will get the same level of support you would get here in the Solent region from our existing provision. This partnership with PTSD Resolution will ensure that veterans, their families and carers will be able to access prompt, effective and high-quality mental health support, no matter where they live in the nine counties. PTSD Resolution will enable greater reach and accessibility, as part of our network, through a seamless 'no wrong door' approach."
As part of this collaboration, we have developed a referral system to improve access to services for the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy communities. Through VOS's network of over 30 partner organisations - including local authorities, NHS services, housing providers, and specialist charities, PTSD Resolution clients will now benefit from tailored welfare support and signposting, as both VOS and PTSDR benefit from two-way referrals.
This bespoke process is embedded within the Thrive Together South East (Partnership in Mind) network, ensuring integrated, comprehensive care that addresses both mental health and practical needs.
Both organisations bring significant credentials to the partnership. Both are accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS), reflecting their high standards and quality of clinical support, and both organisations were recently awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme GOLD award, recognising their exceptional support to the Armed Forces Community. These quality marks, alongside the records of success of both PTSD Resolution and Veterans Outreach Support, point to a strong and effective partnership that will serve those who have served.
PTSD Resolution has treated over 4,500 veterans, reservists and family members since 2009, achieving a 68% reliable improvement rate through its FAITH (Family Assistance & Intervention for Trauma Healing) programme. Treatment is delivered free of charge, typically within 12 days of registration, at an average cost of £940 per client.
Veterans Outreach Support has supported almost 3,000 registered users since 2008, providing welfare, wellbeing, and mental health services across South East England, and was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) in 2017. VOS is also the Portfolio Lead Organisation for the Thrive Together South East Partnership in Mind programme programme, which aims to develop sustainable networks of support for veterans and their families.
The partnership addresses growing demand for veteran support services, with particular focus on families and carers, female veterans, and minority veteran groups. Both organisations emphasise evidence-based therapeutic approaches and cost-effective service delivery.
Joint promotional activities will include coordinated communications through both charities' websites and social media channels, with PTSD Resolution featured in Veterans Outreach Support's periodic newsletters. Both organisations will seek joint funding opportunities to expand services and ensure sustainability beyond the initial 3-year programme period (2024-2027).
The partnership will be reviewed after six months with annual evaluations thereafter, with both organisations committed to continuous improvement and expanding the collaboration to better serve the Armed Forces community.
