PTSD Resolution, the UK mental health charity supporting military veterans, reservists and their families, has been shortlisted for the Third Sector Awards 2025 in the 'Best Policy Initiative of the Year' category for its pioneering FAITH (Family Assistance & Intervention for Trauma Healing) programme.

Winners of the Third Sector Awards 2025 will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday, 12 September 2025, at the London Hilton Park Lane.

The shortlisting recognises FAITH as one of the most innovative policy initiatives in the UK charity sector, placing PTSD Resolution among the leading organisations driving systemic change in mental health support. The awards, now in their 20th year, represent the most prestigious recognition in the UK not-for-profit sector.

FAITH is a groundbreaking shift in military mental health support, acknowledging that trauma affects entire family units, not just the veteran. The programme provides free, prompt access to trauma therapy for family members over the age of 12, including partners, children, parents and siblings who may experience secondary trauma from living with a traumatised veteran.

"We are delighted that FAITH has been recognised at this level," said Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution. "This shortlisting validates our belief that effective military mental health support must extend beyond the individual veteran to encompass the entire family system. FAITH represents a fundamental policy shift from treating trauma in isolation to recognising its ripple effects throughout households."

The programme delivers significant results, with 68% of family members achieving reliable improvement through Human Givens therapy. Recent data reveals that 17% of PTSD Resolution's total client base are family members, with partners comprising 65% of family referrals, children 32%, and other family members 3%. In 2023-24, the programme achieved a 61% recovery rate among family members, representing a significant increase from 44% the previous year.

FAITH operates through PTSD Resolution's established network of 200 qualified Human Givens therapists across the UK, offering both online and face-to-face sessions. Like the charity's veteran support services, FAITH requires no GP referral or diagnosis, removing traditional barriers to accessing mental health support. Treatment averages seven sessions and is delivered completely free of charge to families.

The programme emerged from growing evidence that military trauma creates household-wide impacts. Veterans' symptoms including flashbacks, nightmares, anger and depression can lead to family tension, breakdown and secondary trauma in family members. FAITH addresses this through tailored treatment that respects family privacy without requiring detailed discussion of traumatic events.

"FAITH exemplifies our commitment to 'doing more with less' whilst delivering maximum impact," added Highett. "By supporting the family unit, we're not just treating secondary trauma – we're creating stronger support systems for veterans and breaking cycles of trauma that might otherwise continue across generations."

The initiative has attracted attention beyond the military community, with implications for how the UK approaches family-centred mental health support more broadly. The programme's success in achieving high completion rates and measurable outcomes demonstrates the effectiveness of removing barriers to access whilst maintaining clinical excellence.

PTSD Resolution, Charity No. 1202649, was founded in 2009 and has supported over 4,500 veterans, reservists and family members. The charity operates with exceptional efficiency, with 93% of donations going directly to charitable objectives. Treatment costs an average of £940 per person and is delivered through partnerships with Human Givens Institute therapists.
The charity is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services and operates one of the UK's most comprehensive military mental health programmes, including support for veterans in prison and those with substance misuse issues.
