"My trauma not only stems from being on active duty in Northern Ireland and Bosnia, but also from a number of experience in my personal life: I was in a near-fatal motorbike crash, I have been stabbed and watched my mother die. Over the last 25 years, I have never sought help for these unresolved issues and, in fact, have contemplated suicide on many occasions. When I came to PTSD Resolution, then, it was difficult for me to open up about the things which affect me. "Luckily, my counsellor didn't dig too deep into my memories; instead, she explained to me how the mind works to trick us into overplaying past or unlikely future events. Combined with distraction techniques and breathing exercises, this really helped me to get through a breakdown mid-session. Shortly before I began my treatment with PTSD Resolution, I rediscovered my faith and my counsellor taught me some visual techniques to use during prayer which has also helped me to feel better. "espite experiencing one of the lowest periods of my life to date, this month - December 2015 - I have not contemplated suicide and this is a turning point in my life. I know I'm not out of the woods yet but I'm sure that, by combining my faith with the techniques and lessons from my therapy, there will be fewer and fewer dark days ahead."
