UK Veteran, 89, Takes to the Skies for PTSD Resolution
ID: 100426
At 89 years old, Trevor Jones is doing something most people his age would consider unthinkable - jumping out of a plane.
On Sunday 28th June, the day before he turns 90, Trevor will step out of a plane above Hinton Skydiving Centre near Banbury - all to raise funds for PTSD Resolution, the charity supporting UK Veterans, Reservists and their families with free, one-to-one trauma therapy.
This won't be Trevor's first jump. Back in 2020, at the age of 84 - and in the middle of the pandemic - Trevor took on a tandem skydive, raising £766 for PTSD Resolution. Six years later, he's going back for more.
Trevor served as a Regular Army soldier with the Green Howards Regiment in the 1950s - with postings in Germany and Hong Kong. It's this background that motivates his fundraising: "As an Army Veteran myself, I feel there is a need for this support in the present day," he says.
Trevor understands what military service asks of people - and that support isn't always easy to find. PTSD Resolution's model appeals precisely because it's practical: therapy that is free, prompt and delivered locally through a nationwide network of 200 therapists, with sessions also available by phone or online.
"I am doing this skydive to raise funds for PTSD Resolution because they give one-to-one counselling, locally, for Veterans - and I am keen to support such a worthwhile cause."
About PTSD Resolution
Founded in 2009, PTSD Resolution has supported over 5,000 Veterans and family members to date and is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The charity reaches those who often fall through the gaps - Veterans dealing with addiction, those in prison and family members including partners and children who may be carrying the effects of trauma themselves.
Crucially, PTSD Resolution runs with no salaried staff, meaning donations fund therapy directly.
Trevor's Message
For Trevor, the message to potential donors is simple: "I hope we raise a worthwhile amount for a great cause. Please give generously!"
And how does he feel about throwing himself out of a plane (at 10,000 feet) the day before his 90th birthday? "It's never too late to make a contribution..." Hard to argue with that.
