This Remembrance Day, Help Us Change 50 More Lives
5,000 clients treated. Now help us reach 50 more through the Big Give Christmas Challenge.
Every November, we remember those who gave their lives in service of our country. We honour those who never came home, those who returned with physical injuries, and those whose experiences left wounds that cannot be seen.
But for many veterans, the effects of military service do not end when they return home.
This Remembrance, we are asking you to help us turn that recognition into practical support.
From 1 to 8 December 2026, PTSD Resolution is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Donations made through the Big Give will be matched pound for pound while match funding is available.
Just £455, doubled to £910, can fund a complete course of therapy for a veteran, reservist or family member struggling with trauma.
Memories that remain
For some veterans, anxiety, depression, disturbed sleep, flashbacks and difficulties with relationships can continue long after military service has ended. Sometimes the effects emerge years later.
These difficulties can also affect partners, children and other family members.
Since 2009, PTSD Resolution has helped veterans, reservists and their families rebuild their lives through free, confidential mental health treatment.
Earlier this year, we marked a significant milestone when our 5,000th client received treatment. That number has now passed 5,500.
Each person has their own story. This is Malcolm's.
Malcolm: Finding a way forward
Malcolm served for 24 years in a Guards Regiment, including operational tours in Northern Ireland and the Falklands.
But the psychological effects of his experiences followed him into civilian life.
"My problems started in the army. Some pretty bad things happened. I started using weed to keep a lid on my anxiety, but after a while nothing worked."
By the time Malcolm contacted PTSD Resolution, his world had become increasingly restricted. He was struggling to sleep, had no job or relationship, and found even everyday activities overwhelming.
His anxiety had become so severe that he could barely leave his home.
"I couldn't even drive cos I'd get paralysed with fear. When I found PTSD Resolution, I had to have online therapy cos at that point I couldn't leave the house."
Through therapy, Malcolm began to understand how his experiences had affected him. His therapist explained how anxiety and trauma can influence thoughts and behaviour, and helped him develop practical ways to manage his reactions.
Just as importantly, Malcolm felt listened to and respected.
Gradually, things began to change.
He started driving again, found temporary work, began a relationship and reduced his reliance on cannabis.
But recovery was not a straight line.
The deaths of former platoon colleagues, difficulties at work and the breakdown of his relationship brought further setbacks. At times, old patterns of anxiety returned.
This time, however, Malcolm had learned ways to cope.
His therapist helped him develop a gradual approach to reducing cannabis use and taught him grounding techniques to manage anxiety when life became difficult.
Today, Malcolm has a new job and relationship. He is sleeping better, managing his thoughts more effectively and feels better equipped to deal with life's challenges.
Reflecting on what treatment achieved, he says:
"It's not that my therapist sorted my life. He showed me how to cope when things go wrong. Cos they do."
For Malcolm, therapy was not about removing every difficulty. It was about regaining the confidence and ability to manage his own life.
And that is what we want to make possible for more veterans and their families.
Treatment that changes lives
PTSD Resolution provides free, prompt and confidential therapy for armed forces veterans, reservists and their families.
Through our nationwide network of 200 therapists, treatment is available locally, face to face, by phone or online. No GP referral is needed, and people experiencing addiction issues can also receive help.
Our results demonstrate the difference that treatment can make:
Treatment takes an average of seven sessions, with further sessions available where needed.
And the average cost of a complete course of therapy is just £910.
For the person receiving treatment, it is always free.
One week. Every pound doubled.
This December, our Big Give Christmas Challenge aims to raise enough money to fund treatment for 50 more veterans, reservists and family members.
We need to raise £22,750 in public donations. With matched funding, that becomes £45,500, enough to cover 50 complete courses of therapy at our average treatment cost.
During Big Give Week, donations made through the Big Give platform will be doubled while matching funds remain available.
Your donation can make twice the difference:
Every contribution brings us closer to helping another person regain control of their life.
Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution, says:
"Reaching 5,000 clients treated is a milestone we are enormously proud of, but there are still veterans and families waiting right now for the help they need. Big Give Week gives every donor the chance to double their impact: just £455 becomes a full £910 treatment course. If five of you donate at that level, five more veterans get the care they deserve. Please help us keep going."Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution
This Remembrance, let's do more than remember
Remembrance is a time to honour sacrifice and reflect on what we owe those who have served.
Malcolm's story reminds us that the consequences of military service can continue for years, but that effective treatment can help people find their way forward.
This December, you have an opportunity to make that treatment possible for someone else.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge opens at midday on Tuesday 1 December and closes at midday on Tuesday 8 December 2026.
Please mark the date in your diary. When the campaign opens, visit our Big Give page and make your donation through the Big Give platform so it can be matched, subject to the remaining matching funds.
Together, we can honour those who served by helping more veterans and families living with trauma today.
