Milestone
PTSD Resolution Reaches 5,000th Referral Milestone in Treating Armed Forces Veterans and Family Members
"How can you put a price on a family reunited?" That is how one Armed Forces veteran described what recovery from trauma had given him back. PTSD Resolution, the charity providing free mental health treatment for Armed Forces veterans, reservists and their families, has treated its 5,000th client since it was founded in 2009.
"Five thousand clients represents far more than a number. Behind every referral is someone who has finally decided they no longer have to live with the effects of trauma. Every recovery means a veteran finding hope again, rebuilding relationships they thought were lost, and reclaiming a future they had stopped believing was possible." Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution
Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution, continued: "Those benefits do not stop with the individual. They ripple out to partners, children and whole communities. We estimate that more than 15,000 lives have been positively affected by the work of PTSD Resolution."
Trauma rarely stays contained to one person, and the charity's own estimate reflects that. When a veteran recovers, a marriage often steadies, a child gets a more present parent, a household regains stability.
A year of growing reach
This milestone has not arrived by chance. Over the past two years, working alongside an expanding network of military charities, service organisations and statutory partners, PTSD Resolution has increased the number of people it treats by more than 70%. The charity says it is now on course to treat between 700 and 800 veterans, reservists and family members this year, its busiest year since it was founded.
More than 70% of the charity's clients are now referred by partner organisations, rather than arriving through direct contact. Highett said this reflects something the charity takes seriously:
"Other organisations are putting their own reputations behind us when they refer someone into our care. That level of confidence has to be earned, and it is earned session by session, outcome by outcome." Charles Highett, CEO of PTSD Resolution
Independently verified outcomes
These outcomes are supported by an independent evaluation published in Occupational Medicine in March 2025 (Hall and Greenberg), which assessed 211 veterans and family members treated by the charity. It found that:
The growth PTSD Resolution has seen reflects two things happening at once: rising demand for specialist trauma treatment across the Armed Forces community, and a reputation, built over sixteen years, for delivering therapy quickly and backing it up with strong, independently verified clinical outcomes. Together, this has made PTSD Resolution one of the UK's leading independent providers of specialist trauma therapy for veterans, reservists and their families.
