Veteran Fundraiser Jonathan Thomson Launches Norfolk 25 Cycling Challenge

We are delighted to announce that dedicated supporter Jonathan Thomson has embarked upon an ambitious last-minute fundraising challenge for PTSD Resolution – alongside fellow cyclists Jez, Jim, Matt and Bill.

On Tuesday, 3rd June, the team of five cyclists commenced the Rebellion Way – a demanding four-day, 372-kilometre route beginning and ending in Norwich. The challenge presents serious physical demands, with 20 percent of the route traversing off-road terrain and participants covering 90 kilometres each day whilst riding unsupported and carrying their own equipment.

To mark five years of fundraising for PTSD Resolution – “because what they do and achieve is most effective” – Jonathan has set a target of raising £5,000, enough to provide therapy for five individuals suffering from trauma-related mental distress.

With over 4,500 referrals to date, registered charity PTSD Resolution is dedicated to assisting UK Veterans, Reservists and family members struggling to reintegrate into everyday life. Founded in 2009, the charity is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS). It provides free, prompt and effective therapy, with treatment available online or by phone.

A Distinguished Record

Jonathan Thomson, a former Royal Marine, has shown exceptional dedication to supporting Veterans – through multiple long-distance fundraising events. During the pandemic, Jonathan completed ambitious solo rides, including the North Coast 500 in Scotland. Since then, he has assembled a loyal team, collectively cycling an astonishing 4,107 km over 39 days, with 190,316 ft climb across Scotland, the Orkneys, Shetland, Wales and the French Pyrenees.

In 2024, in a remarkable feat of endurance, and in his 80th year, Jonathan completed his fifth cycling challenge for PTSD Resolution. ‘Pyrenees 24’ was a gruelling 700 km (435 miles) with an astonishing elevation gain of 35,832 feet – equivalent to cycling from London to Edinburgh and 1.23 times the height of Mount Everest from sea level.

Exceptional Fundraising Achievement

Jonathan’s sustained efforts have generated over £153,000 to date – enough to fund therapy for more than 180 veterans and their families. His outstanding contribution to the Veteran community was recognised when he was named a Finalist at the 2024 Soldiering On Awards – nominated in the ‘Inspiration’ category.
