"I would absolutely recommend PTSD Resolution treatment, and in fact already have! Since meeting this therapist, I have had my eyes and mind opened to how other people project themselves on to you and that the emotional ties of things that have happened in the past can have a very profound affect on your today. I'm now better equipped to deal with the stresses and strains of modern day life and better able to help myself and those around me to live a higher quality of life. Through out my Army career I've had several traumatic events, some have had more of a detrimental effect than others, but on the whole they have all made their mark and I certainly wasn't aware of how they were impacting me.
"The final straw was when I was on Operations in Afghanistan 2009. My father died whilst I was tour in Afghanistan 2012, I hadn't wanted to go on that tour but was given an ultimatum by my chain of command, go on tour or get posted away from the area I was going to be resettling in. I was angry all the time but kept it hidden as best I could, but I had changed, I would go out of my way to piss people off, which made my life harder and the vicious circle just continued until I eventually left the Army without as much as a goodbye. For a short while I was great and didn't pause for thought about my Army life and all the emotional trauma I'd suffered.
"After about a year though I was noticing that the fuse of my temper was getting shorter and things that wouldn't bother me were really starting to get under my skin. It lead to arguments with my girlfriend as mole hills grew into mountains and I would withdraw into myself deeper and deeper and then explode with rage when I was pushed too far. I became violent. For a long while I didn't do anything, I just promised to see a doctor, get help etc, but I never did. Then my girlfriend booked me an appointment at my doctors to see Lorraine Flint-Johnson a Nurse practitioner and gave me an ultimatum, take the appointment or leave.
"Lorraine was great and listen to me, her Husband was ex Army and therefore had experience of Army life and the problems it can throw up. Lorraine gave me this therapist's number, She told me that he'd had great results with other patients she had referred to him. I spoke with the therapist and he directed me to ring the the PTSDR helpline. I now have a set of skills that allow me to identify when I'm being hijacked by other peoples emotional needs. I can now use these new skills to keep myself calm and to not be as affected as I used to.
"The treatment I received was so different from those that I'd had before, it was if I was being educated rather than being treated. I was set tasks that got me thinking about things that had nothing to do with anything really, so they gave me space to think freely, without hindrance from emotion. I was taught technics which would allow me to gain control of my mind and body when my emotions wanted to run riot. I use them daily and it helps me clear my mind and smile. I have already recommended PTSDR to some soldiers who knew of PTSD suffers, and I would do it again. I can honestly say that I can't think of anything that could be done better, it was seamless from the initial contact to the treatment I received, maybe biscuits with my coffee? "
