As UK workplace mental health costs soar to £100bn annually, PTSD Resolution unveils specialist half-day open course based on military trauma expertise
PTSD Resolution, the charity accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists for its work with military veterans, today announced the launch of its flagship "Trauma Awareness Training for Employers" (TATE) on-line training programme to the public. The half-day workshop, scheduled for Tuesday, 20 May 2025, addresses the critical skills gap in workplace mental health support.
The announcement comes as recent research indicates unaddressed trauma is costing UK businesses over £42 billion annually through decreased productivity, increased absenteeism and higher turnover rates.
"Most organisations now recognise mental health matters, but our work with major employers reveals a critical gap—managers simply don't have the skills to identify or effectively respond to trauma," said Colonel Tony Gauvain (Retired), Chairman of PTSD Resolution. "This training translates our clinical expertise from helping 4,500 veterans into practical workplace strategies."
The TATE programme has already demonstrated significant impact across healthcare, corporate and educational sectors. At Anglo American, 100% of participants reported "significantly increased confidence in supporting colleagues experiencing trauma," while Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has embedded the training for 250 staff members.
FDM Group, which achieved the prestigious Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award partly through its partnership with PTSD Resolution, has seen tangible business benefits.
"Their expert support has enabled 16 of our ex-forces employees to effectively manage PTSD, dramatically reducing workplace disruption while allowing these valuable team members to progress their careers," said Stewart Sharman, Deputy MD (UK) & Head of Ex-Forces Programme at FDM Group.
The highly interactive workshop covers:
-
Recognising often-missed trauma indicators in workplace behaviour
-
Evidence-based techniques for supportive intervention
-
Creating effective referral pathways
-
Implementing trauma-informed management practices
Ros Townsend explains the course content:
Limited to just 24 participants to ensure individual attention, the May 20th on-line session (9:30AM-12:30PM) represents PTSD Resolution's first open-enrollment opportunity for this previously exclusive corporate training. Places are priced at £195 per person (£145 for charities), with early booking strongly advised.
Beyond immediate workplace benefits, the training supports organisations in meeting Armed Forces Covenant commitments—increasingly important as more veterans enter the civilian workforce.
