Tragic Wait: Veteran's Struggle with PTSD and Untimely Death Amid Healthcare Delays
George Du Preez, a former private in the British Parachute Regiment, tragically took his own life while awaiting therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which developed after he unintentionally shot a child in Afghanistan in 2011 - as reported in BBC News.
His wife, Katriona, disclosed that he had been unaware of the child's presence at the time of the incident

Highly Effective for Treating Veterans' Mental Health
A new study by researchers at Nottingham Trent University provides strong evidence for the effectiveness of the charity PTSD Resolution’s programme in treating mental health symptoms experienced by former members of the UK armed forces. Analysing data from over 200 veterans who registered for treatment between 2020-2023, Project-100 found significant improvements across a range of clinical measures.

Honouring a Fallen Soldier: Widow Seeks to Make a Difference for Military Veterans
In a determined effort to support military veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Joss Hipwell has started on a fundraising campaign for PTSD Resolution, a charitable organisation that provides invaluable therapy and assistance for those affected.
Joss's husband, Winston Hipwell, proudly served as a Royal Engineer for 24 years, participating in conflicts across the globe, including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, and Kuwait. Although Winston successfully transitioned to running a business after his army service, he faced the invisible yet life-altering scars of PTSD. Tragically, Winston passed away on 3rd June 2023.

Before you begin your training, it is important to assess your current level of fitness. If you are a beginner runner or have not been active in some time, consider starting with a 5K race as a way to get back into running shape. Our little Team of Four assembled in Swansea late this afternoon having travelled by train, car and van. Bikes have been fettled and the route, which looks longer than we'd thought, loaded into the little machines cyclist carry on their handlebars. With dry weather forecast we are set fair and will be back with news of our first bumpy100km tomorrow.
New Industry Initiative for Mental Health of Forces' Veterans
City Event November 2nd
PTSD Resolution is launching a new industry campaign to promote the mental welfare of veterans of the armed forces and support their employers. The PTSD Resolution Memorial Wall is a service for relatives to remember the fallen of the UK armed services who died without a known grave.
We launched the online memorial in 2020 for those wishing to remember - "and by doing so, to
support the recovery of the mental health of Veterans and Reservists who have survived and also
family members who may be affected."
Relatives of fallen veterans with no grave can submit details and an image by using the form on
the PTSD Resolution website. There is no charge: visitors are invited to make a charitable
contribution to the work of PTSD Resolution in providing free mental health therapy to traumatised
Veterans, Reservists and their families.

Tanya Hodges treks to Everest Base Camp and raises (almost) £4,000 for UK Veterans’ Mental Health
Charity Ambassador Tanya Hodges has successfully completed a two-week hike to Everest Base Camp, including two nights spent in freezing conditions - all to raise much needed funds for mental health charity, PTSD Resolution.
“Last year in the UK, 71 military personnel and Veterans took their own life due to the mental trauma of war,” Tanya says. “This needs to be stopped. Please donate and support anyway you can. WE OWE IT TO THEM.”

"Before I explain how my therapist guided me away from my dark place, a brief outline how I got PTSD.
"After completing basic training and trade training as an Army Catering Corps Chef, in 1985, I was posted to an RMP unit in Northern Island, in July 1986, while returning to the garrison, I was attacked by an off duty RMP, who simply kicked the stuffing out of me and threatened to destroy my military career.
A Relationship Tested by Trauma: Sharon, Paul and Holly Too
Today, Sharon and Paul have what many would call the perfect life. Paul has a good, secure job he enjoys, Sharon runs her wedding cake business from a studio in their beautiful garden - and beloved dog Holly keeps them on their toes. But it wasn ’t always so.
As soon as Paul moved in, Sharon knew something was wrong. Up until then he had been her “big, bubbly Irishman” - but as his angry outbursts grew more frequent and more severe, it became clear his 22 years of military service had taken a toll.
NHS intensive care staff suffered same levels of PTSD during Covid as Afghanistan combat veterans
According to a study reported in inews, NHS critical care professionals have experienced the same levels of PTSD as British military veterans serving in Afghanistan in combat roles during the epidemic. Researchers say people afflicted should be given priority access to mental health therapy.
Colonel Tony Gauvain (retired), chairman of PTSD Resolution, comments on the study:
“ We have worked for the past 13 years with UK services’ veterans of Afghanistan and other conflicts and successfully alleviated their symptoms of trauma, with nearly 4,000 referrals to date. We are ready and able to train NHS frontline staff and personnel managers using the same Human Givens methods as employed by our network of 200 therapists. The training is invaluable in ensuring that NHS staff recognise the symptoms of trauma and have a clear pathway to getting successful treatment.”
Jonathan Thomson & Team Poised to Take on Wales for PTSD Resolution
This Wednesday June 15th will see charity Ambassador Jonathan Thomson set off from Swansea on a 7 day, 700km fundraising bike ride around Wales.
After cycling the north coast of Scotland in 2020, followed by the Pyrenees in 2021 - all to raise much need funds for UK Veterans mental health charity PTSD Resolution - Jonathan was keen to get back in the saddle. This time the 77-year-old former Royal Marine will be joined by an intrepid team: Jim, a former Royal Navy helicopter pilot; Neil, a former Royal Engineer; and Jez, a fellow former Royal Marine
June 14th, 1982: 40 Years Since The Falklands War - Confronting A Legacy Of Trauma
Stuart Moore had just turned nineteen when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands. When he and his brothers, all Royal Marines, were called back to barracks in April 1982, they assumed they were off to Scotland. Operation Chariot was an attack on the docks at St Nazaire in German-occupied France. It was a feat of cunning and daring that helped to shape the war at sea. It is now known as “The Greatest Raid of All”.
SIA FUNDING FOR PTSD RESOLUTION
The Security Industry Authority has awarded £12,500 funding to PTSD Resolution from a special SIA fund that uses ill-gotten cash confiscated from individuals convicted of criminal offences within the private security industry.
UKRAINE – SUPPORT FOR UK VETERANS
The news coverage of the invasion of Ukraine is very distressing. PTSD and mental health are today's big issues, brought into sharp focus by the pandemic as the population has been exposed to unprecedented stress, anxiety and isolation. These experiences, however, were not new for many UK Veterans, Reservists and their families. PTSD – or post-traumatic stress disorder – is the term for a cluster of symptoms, psychological and physical, that may be exhibited by someone adversely affected by a powerful emotional event – a trauma.
This trauma is often associated with a threat to life, or extreme danger to themselves or others. PTSD symptoms include substance addiction, nightmares, anger and violence, which can lead to job loss, family breakdown and even suicide.

On the tenth anniversary of the Armed Forces Covenant in November 2021, the armed forces' charity PTSD Resolution is highlighting opportunities for organisations to support veterans and meet Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments. PTSD Resolution has helped a number of companies to attain awards under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).
With the Armed Forces Act 2011 ten years ago, the nation confirmed a commitment to the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force, as well as the families of those who have served. The Covenant was founded on two fundamental tenets.

Memorial Wall for Forces' Dead with No Marked Grave
In the annual commemoration of Remembrance Day, the armed forces’ mental health charity PTSD Resolution invites relatives of veterans of the UK services who died without a known grave to post details to the online Memorial Wall.
Colonel Tony Gauvain (Retired), chairman of PTSD Resolution, whose father was killed in action in Singapore in 1942, says:
“The memorial wall serves as a tribute to those in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, who were killed in action and reported as missing presumed dead - some 33,000 individuals in world war two - and who do not have any gravestone by which to honour their memory.
What Fireworks Mean for a UK Veteran

A UK Veteran's Story: Nemo's Therapy with PTSD Resolution
When the forces' veteran came to see me for the first therapy session, he was so nervous, he sat down and took a pack of playing cards out of his pocket and sat shuffling and fanning them throughout that first session, never once giving me eye contact. Nemo reported his life was a mess with so many awful things currently happening that he just could not cope with it anymore. Most of his days were spent in bed trying to sleep and block the world out.

In September 2021 Jonathan Thomson completed an epic fundraising event, cycling from Argelès-sur-Mer in France on the 13th September, on what he planned to be a journey of eight days, weather and other conditions permitting, covering 1,000km and involving at least 40,000ft of hill climbs.
How To Reduce Suicide Risk: One-Day on-line Workshop, 30th September 2021
Malcolm Hanson, a Trustee of the Forces’ Veterans’ charity PTSD Resolution, will present a one-day online course entitled ‘How to reduce suicide risk - the practical steps you need to know’, on Thursday 30th September.
Human Givens Institute therapist Malcolm Hanson will explain how to work effectively with people who may be contemplating suicide, or who have survived a past attempt. The event is intended for charity and other staff who engage with veterans who may be at risk of suicide - this includes mental health and wellbeing professionals, pastoral care and outreach workers.
UK Veterans Charity Initiative for Mental Health Therapy Support
Veterans’ mental health charity PTSD Resolution and peer-to-peer veterans network Phoenix Heroes have launched a service to support former forces personnel following the completion of mental health therapy.
